A syllabus is the first glimpse your students have to your course and it communicates course goals. It is a guideline for the course and shows the general contours, milestones and the landmarks that let students know that they are on the right road. A well thought out syllabus gives students a first impression that their professor has a plan for their learning and success. An effective syllabus can also inspire students to start thinking critically about course content early in the semester.
