Faculty serve as leaders in various ways. In order to support them in this role, we offer a year-long program for department chairs and directors to foster a community of practice in pursuit of the effective management of academic units. This program aims to equip chairs and directors with skills in recruiting, mentoring, supervising, and evaluating faculty, managing budget, leading departmental initiatives, cooperating with university operations, adapting to changes, among other administrative responsibilities. We also offer a year-round network for associate deans to discuss campus-wide and college-oriented initiatives, leadership topics, innovations, and priorities at OU and in higher education. Furthermore, the Office of Vice President for Research offers a knowledge-based and skill-enhancing Faculty Leadership Academy to help faculty apply leadership skills in a wide variety of contexts.
